Emma walked slowly up the staircase. She put her hand to her heart. There is no reason to miss to miss visiting Mr. Cloak today. He is getting so fussy. It is not above him to expect a visit every Saturday along with freshly baked cinnamon buns.

The Book Of Harlan by Bernice L. McFadden

Wow! What didn't I think about "The Book Of Harlan by Bernice L. McFadden? The ending left a noise in my head. That's all I will write about that part of the book. Don't sneak a snoop! The novel happens during the Second World War. That war is written about often and talked about often as well. Still, there were subjects in the Historical novel which had never been heard about by me. One subject is passing. Of course, I've heard about Black people passing for White. I'd never heard of a White male wanting to pass for White except in Black Like Me. Sorry, I have forgotten the author. Lizard is the one who passes or wants to pass. Anyway, he loves the Black race. He loves Harlan, his friend. His feelings break his family's heart. The author Bernice L. McFadden uses a broken dish to describe the parents feelings about Lizard's actions. I could see and hear the plate breaking. What was so terrible about their

The Dare And The Doctor by Kate Noble

I love Historical Romance along with other genres. "The Dare And The Doctor" by Kate Noble is wonderful. It came in my mailbox at the perfect time. Autumn mornings have a crispy chill here in my "neck of the woods." In the book, it's spring, at least for now. It's delicious reading about forced bulbs, jasmine vines and rose shrubberies. For the first time, I'm allowing myself to drop out of the present season and in to a season that is months away. So this morning I'm smelling roses and thinking of colors like light lime, sky blue and lilac and walking through a park with a gentleman. Of course, I'm already in love with Rhys. I especially like the spelling of his name. He seems as gentle as spring. Well, I'm enchanted. Vauxhall Gardens (pinterest.com)

The Name I Call Myself by Beth Moran (Lion/Kregel Fiction)

Image
On the cover of Beth Moran's, novel are these words to describe the novel. "...chick-lit as it should be." If Chick Lit is no longer trending in bookstores, that is sad. "The Name I Call Myself" is great. Along with lighthearted days, there are very serious situations taking place in the novel.  This Christian novel is basically about survival and song. Yes, the wedding gown is part of the novel, not a big part. I think the cover of the book and the blurb on the back might mislead readers. Don't look to read much about a wedding trousseau. The most important part of the novel is that a dangerous man named Kane is getting out of prison. It is possible he might harm Faith and her brother, Sam, again. He has already caused the family tremendous physical pain and loss. With all that is going on in her life, Faith continues to attend church and to take care of her brother who has drug and mental problems. Faith is in the church choir. The chur
