Heart of Gold by Beverly Jenkins

I have fallen in love with Henry Adams in Kansas. I love the place and the neighborly people who live there. Of course, every neighbor isn't wonderful. Astrid Wiggins makes me want to take two pills and not call the doctor in the morning. As a matter of fact, I'm glad Santa Claus became sick on her watch. Henry Adams is likable because the people are so ordinary. What makes them extraordinary is their loveing care for one another. The daily problems the people face are like problems I might face myself or have faced in my life. I had the chance to see how someone else would handle a similar situation. In Heart of Gold, I fell in love with Zoey. She's such a sweet child. I felt happy the old man left her such a grand surprise. It's amazing to realize children have wisdom too. What Zoey did with her gift made me choke up. Most children do like to share.  I especially liked Zoey's meeting with Cassidy and her family. What a surprise! I didn't expect it. Zoey

The place was rocking, as always. "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle was blasting on the box, but when Roni and Zoey stepped in with their guest, everything came to a halt. ..The volume on the music was turned back up, and Rocky came over to the table to take their orders."

THE ANTIGONE POEMS by Marie Slaight and Drawings by Terrence Tasker

These poems are a stepping stone from the drama Antigone by Sophocles. The poems struck a deep part of me where suffering and sorrow lie along with rebellion. " Anguish / in whispered song." I also felt the heaviness, not decreasing, but growing with power to smother me. " Pain increases...shattered glass...fire and disorder." Those emotions did not make me uncomfortable.  It felt like a purging or catharsis. I was contacting the dark, deep, heavy side of myself. The place I never go to on my own. The Antigone Poems drove me to this place, a "sacred" place. More frightening and intense was the numbness. " No joy, No pain. The sharing of two people in sexual eroticism does play a part in the poems. "Only the blackened thrust."  So, there is "The debauched loneliness/of your thigh/flung/Across mine./ The height of frustration/Then/Chaos consecrates/ As all elements find final focus in the erotic..."   As I look through the

"It was half past midnight on a Friday night--the witching hour, my dead grandma used to call it. I was tending bar in a gangster's suite in a glitzy Atlantic City hotel.  I'd stuffed myself into a black silk sheath as snug as it was expensive and was pouring drinks, grinning like a fool. But I was scared." http://bibliophilebythesea.blogspot.com
