Whom Shall We Talk To Next?

Nine years ago in Chicago five women disappeared. Two detectives, Evie Blackwell and David Marshall, work together trying to find a solution to the above crime along with another crime involving a murdered detective who had been working on a case about an unfaithful spouse.  Both cases have gone cold. Evie is working on the missing women, mainly a college student named Jenna. The cases begin to interweave which thickens the distasteful stew.

It would seem like Evie and David would become romantic involved while working together.  However, it never happens. As a matter of fact, neither thinks of romance because each are involved with other people. David is involved with Margaret called Maggie throughout the book. She is a very famous singer. Evie is involved with Rob. These cases are cold because six to nine years have past. The methods used by these detectives to solve these awful crimes are amazing.

In "Threads Of Suspicion" by Dee Henderson, there is the added layer of Christian values. There is the feeling that the author definitely is a devout Christian. Still, she is able to write a hardcore detective novel. While it is a Christian or Inspirational novel, it is not too gentle or preachy. I especially liked the relationships between the four couples. While Rob and Evie seem to get along easily, there is a huge obstacle between Maggie and David. It is interesting to find out where their patience and love will take them.

With all that is good in the novel there are problems. To me, the solution to the crime did not fit well. It brings to mind the famous words  'if the glove does not fit,  you must acquit.' I felt more pages were needed for the motive. I wanted to know more about this Andrew Timmet. In my small eye view, Dee Henderson concentrated more time on the work of the detectives. This is the part of the mystery that is so fascinating: the questioning of those who might have seen what happened, looking over the whiteboard and also, looking at the arrangement of the streets from above. Where people can hide during a break - in seemed surprising. This is a safe room. I must look at more t.v. detectives. Then,  my knowledge might grow about these convenient and protective places.

The whole novel is thought provoking. There is always the thought why, why are we as humans so brutal to one another. Is there any place on earth where we can just breathe and let down our guard? Also, how many times have I not prayed for policemen and detectives who work long hours striving to bring closure to mothers like Nancy and friends like Lynne?  I would like to ask the author in her opinion is there ever a time when relatives and friends should stop looking for answers and let go of hope. I am grateful to Bethany House for this mystery novel.
