Empty as a lemon rind
Spent from the squeeze of society

Lick their lips of gooey meringue
Beg quarters for a Valentine's cake
And chocolate cherry candy.
Remember the whirr of their mother's
beaters mixing vanilla cake.
Then told, "say please, and you can
have them."
