First Chapter, First Paragraph

"Married and widowed at thirteen, a mother and childless at fifteen. Ain't nobody should have to learn life like I did. No soul should have to claw their way back from the bowels of hell, scared and scraped up like I was. I hate these memories."http://bibliophilebythesea.blogspot.com

Wow, this sounds very sad! I love the cover and the title though.

Sounds like it will be a intense read! And I like the cover too.
Sounds sad, yet compelling. I'd read more.

Wow. I'm interested.

Mine this week is from a spy thriller: http://pdworkman.com/excerpt-from-blood-line/

Looks like a good one. The cover is very interesting. I am not starting a new one this week. I am in the middle of Beloved by Toni Morrison and Saving CeeCee Honecutt by Beth Hoffman. We traveled last week and listened to an audio in the car, so no extra reading of my print books.
That opening really grabs the reader's attention.

That intro got my attention. I'm not familiar with the author or the novel, so I'd keep reading!
I feel for the character, and definitely want to know what happens to her. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

This one definitely suckerpunches the reader with reality from the first sentence! Not quite sure whether I could have continued after that, but it sounds very interesting! Thanks for sharing :) Hope you have a great week!

That's quite a powerful introduction and sad! I would keep reading.
Sounds like a hard life. I'd keep reading to find out if the character overcame her rough start and how her life turned out.
My Tuesday post features ALL THAT GLITTERS.
