Designers, columnists, editors, models, trendsetters, fashionistas, and a galaxy of stars mixed and mingled, making air kisses as they came together and small talk as they moved on."

The author did a great job of creating the scene in this opening. I feel like I'm mingling with the beautiful people! But I'm wondering why the reception had begun well... which implies that it didn't end well!

This sounds fun! I love mysteries and add in the fashionista/magazine angle and that sounds even more interesting.
