wrapped up in life with omniscient eyes by Sandra Proto

I do believe a Kindly Spirit might have shared their "omniscient" power with Sandra Proto. Every poem in wrapped up in life with omniscient eyes is wise and beautiful and sometimes sorrowful rather than happy. What matters is whenever I opened this book my body fleshed out with purpose and love of life. Each poem is one I want to reread on another day in another month and another season.

I think most girls love their fathers in a special way. Sandra Proto captures an almost photographic rendering of a father in a poem titled Oh, what a memory I have of you(in memory of my father). This is the part of the poem I like best.

When you took us for a spin
and swerved smoothly around the bend,
It was like sailing.
I held onto the back door like a railing.

Those lines reminded me of my father whom I loved to ride with in his blue Falcon Ford . The memories rushed back because of the words in this poem. I could see the Schuylkill River as it rushed pass the front passenger side window. I always sat in the front with my dad. Truly, I was "sailing."

There are so many poems that take you back in time, forward in time or take you deeper into the present moment. There is always a flow, a motion of  the spirit  in each poem. Here is another example of Sandra Proto's poetry. Each time I write her name there is wonder: Why, I wonder, have I never heard of this woman poet? She is so powerful in her writing. This particular poem seesaws your body back to the other side with sorrow, anger, tears. The title is To a Rapist from His Victim. Like with all poems, you need not have ever experienced this in real time. It's just a movement of empathy like when you hear a sad song played on a piano. You just feel it.

You came into my life
I didn't want you there
But, you came anyway
Because you didn't care

...You came and my whole world crumbled
You came and mutilated my mind
You came and all I could do was say Why? Why? Why?

One year later
One million years beyond
I'm still crying Why? Why? Why?

I have to stop myself from writing the lines of this poem. I have to yell stop in my head because I want to write the whole poem here. If there is beauty hidden in ugliness, it is here in this poem.Sandra Proto has discovered it like a passionate explorer finds new land.

As is easily seen, Sandra Proto, is a poet who can wake you up and startle you. Her poetry is alive and breathing all the times we've lived in life. By the way, any gender would enjoy these poems. It matters not whether you're man, woman or a child grown too fast into adult shoes. http://www.sandraproto.blogspot.com/
