TIDEWATER INN by COLLEEN COBLE

On Hope Island near Virginia Beach there is a large inn. The name of the inn is TIDEWATER INN. COLLEEN COBLE shares the details of Tidewater Inn's decorative beauty immediately. In this way I knew all that would happen for good or bad in the novel would tie back to this property. I was not surprised to learn the main character, Libby Holladay, worked as a historical restorer of homes. Libby does not really work because she loves restoring and researching the past of these aged buildings. It is her dream job.

The house was definitely in the Federal style, as she'd been told. Palladian windows flanked a centered door, or rather the opening for a door...She could almost see the original occupants in this place."

Libby Holladay will inherit the Tidewater Inn. However, the inn is like an abused person. It comes with a set of destructive problems. It seems each person involved with the inn is unhappy or unable to find God's meaning or love in their life. It is incredible to read about the unexpected circumstances Libby will find thrown in her way like a door has been flung open by a dangerous blizzard. I applauded Libby's ability to greet each circumstance with strength and preserverence. Almost immediately she loses her best friend, Nicole. Libby is afraid she will never see her again. However, she never stops hunting for her.

The novel is filled with wonderful characters. Some characters I hated to see come on the scene. Brent and his sister, Vanessa, are filled with a deep hate and find contentment in thinking the worse of Libby. Pearl is one of the characters I loved immediately. I wished she were related to me because of her ability to calm the stormy arguments that happen all around her.

The one person who really loved Libby, her father, is dead. Libby's mother has also died. My favorite parts of the novel involve Libby's father.. His character is so real, so alive, I could almost touch him. Libby felt the same way. This made me think what I am while alive, my character, never really dies. A part of me, spirit, is left behind for good or bad to fill the empty places of the people I love. Libby's father is a good role model for me. I need to think about gifts. What gifts can I leave behind for people I love so much.

He left so many physical and spiritual treasures behind for Libby and the rest of the family.  He not only left physical assets, he also left the love of family. Each person in Tidewater Inn is given spiritual and physical love. This is the legacy he left behind along with the beauty of nature, the beauty of a place, the beauty of friendship and the restorative medicinal power of money if used correctly. It all begins with Libby. Then, the goodness flows outward to Brent and Vanessa and the sheriff, etc. He picked the perfect person to straighten out all the crooked, messy places on that island. Libby Holladay made a new path in each person's life with her physical and spiritual Father beside her. So her father really never died. He left a cornucopia of plenty. This only led to his memory remaining alive and vibrant.
