The Deadly Rose by J.M. Lominy
From the beginning of this strongly, creative tale, I've been out of breath from running and hiding on different Haitian nights. This is not a tale for the timid. There is violence. Usually, I would have walked away from such a book. This novel is impossible to walk away from even if you are afraid of machetes and blood. J.M. Lominy definitely is a wonderful storyteller. This novel could very well be a movie. It's about Grimo and the people who are his enemies or his friends. Grimo is a Champion Soccer player in Haiti.
The story begins with the assassination of a senator. From there on out the novel is filled with revenge and other hot emotions. There are surprises in the novel. I was quite surprised to learn about Grimo's love life. This love story could make a book in itself. What might happen if a parent chooses to decide whom their son or daughter will love?
Anyway, when Grimo wears a red bandanna, ties his black pants to the ankles and paints his face black it is time to take a deep breath and hold on tight because you're in for the ride of your life. I really enjoyed The Deadly Rose. By the way, Grimo leaves a rose as his calling card. If there is such a thing, he's a very intelligent, very patient, very creative and very quiet assassin. When I say creative, I'm thinking of the night he dropped a loaded bee hive in a car of men who weren't on his side. Another time he murdered over four guards without making a sound while going up to the main bedroom of the house. It's an amazing story filled with family love, friendship and Politics..
