I have always been skeptical about out of body experiences or near death experiences. After reading "When Lightning Strikes: One Man's Journey to Heaven and Back" by Kay and Bobby Brunson, I changed my mind. The memoir is mind boggling and mind changing in its scope. When Bobby Brunson decides to put his daughter's yellow bicycle under shelter from the rain, his whole life changes. He is struck by lightning. His shoes are pulled from his feet. A long Z shape is left on his chest, and he dies for twenty-eight minutes.  When Bobby Brunson is able he shares his out of body memories with family, friends, nurses and doctors. Bobby Brunson in those few minutes had a glimpse of Heaven. He shared a conversation with his father who is dead but alive in Heaven. He saw Jesus, He also warns people that life is short, much shorter than we think. "We think we have a lot of time but we don't!"  His zeal to get this message across to people is what moved me to take stock of his words in the book. I literally started paying more attention to the words.

It's a small book jam packed with  a few facts about lightning, a natural occurrence often taken for granted. "When Lightning Strikes: One Man's Journey to Heaven and Back is also about a marriage. It's about a wife, Kay Brunson, who kept the faith. She always believed her husband would get better and walk out of that hospital. She never gave up.

I was shocked. Kay Brunson freely shared her experiences as a caretaker. She didn't portray herself as an angel of mercy. Kay Brunson is honest. When Bobby Brunson rattles his bed time and time again, it's not easy to rest or sleep. It's a little bit aggravating proving not only do patients have a story to tell, but caretakers have stories to tell too. Often a caretaker's story isn't heard without the judgment of other people.

It was fascinating to learn how Bobby dealt with life back on earth after a visit to heaven. My mind never thought about life after experiencing such an extraordinary event as a visit to Heaven. How Bobby sees earth and what he thinks of what he sees is very revealing. His outer body experience isn't made out to be pie in the sky either. Kay and Bobby Brunson's book is honest and a heart changer. In the end, the final assessment of Heaven stuck with me.  "The sight of Heaven is quite incredible...It is a peace like you've never known or ever knew could exist."
